Study on the erosion rate of limestone in Beijing

The 36Cl accumulated concentration in rock depends on the burial depth, the erosion rate and the exposure time. The study of the erosion rate at different circumstances is significant for science and economy. By assuming other conditions being fixed the erosion rate for the rock of interest can be derived by measuring the concentration of 36Cl by AMS. The model for calculating the rock erosion rate is described. The concentration of 36Cl for a surface limestone from southwest of Beijing was measured at both CIAE and Tsukuba University. The preliminary result of the erosion rate is (1.33 ±0.28)x10-5 meter per year based on the production rate of 36Cl in the surface of the limestone being a constant value of 29.4 atoms per year per gram.
